Tea in a heatwave

hiraimi mandie_rw and I were supposed to go to Ft. Mifflin's civil war day yesterday. We were all making 1860s sheer dresses and it was gonna be great...until we started to look at the weather forecast. 94 degrees F with the heat index making it feel like 98. You see I love a reenactment but one thing I learned when I worked at *coughttherenfairecough* is that in high heat and corsets Robin goes splat. And it did kind of seem like half the fun would for ME would be taken out if I keeled over in a hoop and showed the world my drawers (maybe not for everyone else)

So a new plan emerged. Instead of fluffing around the fort, we would fluff around a tea room! With the whole must-be-1860s-thing totally gone now we asked if anyone else wanted to come to a last min tea-ing. madamekat, ladyxjade, and grace_lee_19c joined us in their bustley best and my neighbor Victoria came in my second hoop. The New Leaf Tea Room where we went is a really sweetly restored Victorian home and pharmacy. It has all the kitchy decorations and fluffy merchandise you'd expect in a "gift shoppe" The woman positively squealed when she saw us. Several guests commented on how we added to the atmosphere.

And in contrast....

Tea consisted of an individual pot of your choice of flavors, hot or over ice, a selection of tea sandwiches, a nummy fresh scone, and some little desserty cake things. It was delicious! And I don't think any of us managed to finish it all. I had the chocolate mint tea..it was odd smelling chocolate in my black tea. But it tasted to me like good black tea, I only smelled the flavoring. It was fine, but I'd still take Sticky Toffee Pudding any day over it!

After we finished teaing and gabbing and paying we went out to their beautiful porch for some more photos.

It's so FLUFFY!!!
