Happy Valentine's day!

A speeding ticket from the district of columbia...where I was LOST and just going with the flow of traffic...whoopie. *headdesk* Cause I have $100 to burn.

Ugh. That sucks!

[identity profile] sewloud.livejournal.com 2013-02-14 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
majorly. and if I want to contest it I have to appear IN PERSON otherwise I can "accept it an send a written explanation" ew.

Yep. I think that whole "Must appear in person" thing is a complete racket designed to fleece out of town drivers. I had the same problem last time I got a ticket in Boston. Had to appear to contest it. Well, driving into Boston on a weekday is a nightmare and not something I will do voluntarily. So I sucked it up and sent in the fine. =(

I suppose I could do the accept iwth the explanation being "I was completely lost and trying to figure out how to get OUT of DC so I was just going with the flow of traffic and didn't realize the speed limit had dropped"...it seems like it's my only option. That and no more out of town events for me.

One of the main reasons why I LOVE my Garmin is that it clearly displays the speed limit on the screen. Because half the time I don't notice the signs at the side of the road. Because oh yes, I have a lead foot. And sometimes I look down and wonder, hey, wonder what the speed limit is on this country road? And Garmin can tell me.

And don't let one ticket keep you from traveling to events! No reason to punish yourself like that by taking away time with your friends. (Just try to get someone else to drive! *winks*)

we actually have a Garmin it's just not that up to date so it doesn't do the speed limit thing. Which would be really nice.

I know I'm just letting a bad test and a bad day get to me. but I really don't ever want to go anywhere again!

If you want to contest it, you are welcome to stay overnight at my house. I'm 15 minutes from the border of DC.

Thanks! I doubt it's worth it in the end. Rob says just pay it and move on. But if I change my mind I'll definitely take you up on that.

:-) I have to contest mine next week. Mine is $200 because they claim I was doing 71 in a 55 mph space...which might be true on the beltway but not in the area I was at and not in the lane I was in.

I feel your pain (got one yesterday, in Cayuga Heights...:P).

wait as in Ithaca, ny?

[identity profile] heidilea.livejournal.com 2013-02-15 01:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes---usually careful when driving through there, because of the bored cops, but it was such a nice day and I wasn't paying attention.

I went to college in Ithaca :-) although I can't say I ever got a speeding ticket, but I only had a car for one of 4 years.

Really? NEAT! IC or Cornell? I bet it's IC---you seem like a normal person! I'm only here because Jim's working on his PhD at Cornell.

This is my second! I got one 3 days after moving here (still had NJ tags, didn't know the usual speed limit is 30, even though NJ rural roads it's 50).

I was doing 35 in the school zone this time (because the brats in CH are made of sugar, apparently). The officer was really nice and changed the ticket for something else, but still gotta cough up money.

I have never lived in a place that was so obsessed with traffic issues.

yes IC. I have a B.A. in drama graduated in 2005. It certainly was a beautiful place to be a student. well, Ithaca, not IC's campus that was built in the 70s and is all concrete.
