I've been thinking a lot about changes to the costuming community as things shift from LJ. and I wrote a probably inarticulate and wordy blog post about it.  But mostly in summary I love this community on here and I know it seems to be having a slow death but I really hope that's not the case because I love you all. *BIG SQUISHY HUGS*

OMG I love the pick of you flipping the jacket off!

I'm secretly hoping there will be an LJ renaissance - but here on Dreamwidth!

I miss dress diaries. It is what I learned from as a newbie costumer, usually by reading them over and over until things made sense. I try to write/post about my projects but usually it far far easier to just take a few photos.

I've been taking some baby steps into video but anxiety has been an issue. Livestreaming has worked out a little better, but the audience that the platforms have is rather slim as far as historical sewing goes.

Great post! I also laughed at you flipping your jacket the bird. Been there!

I've been thinking of dress diaries, too-- man, I am just not in the mood to make any. *sad face*

That was a great blog post

Yeah, I miss dress diaries something fierce too.

And I learned SO MUCH from the old Costume Snark community on LJ. The things that people were upset about, that I didn't even know were wrong!

Whatever happened to that one? Was it just a slow petering-out, or did I miss some kind of drama about meanness?

A little bit of both killed Costume Snark. People started leaving Live Journal for Facebook, so the costume communities that tended to generate posts that we talked about behind our closed doors were less active. And then I do remember a couple of members started objecting to every post and getting offended about things people were saying. Don't join a snark community if you get offended by people who are going to say not-nice things. We're here to let off steam, and we don't feel the need to be polite.

I do miss it though. I learned so much about what was historically correct for different periods by reading people's comments.

Great post! I love reading dress diaries too and I try to keep track of my progress because I always found seeing how other people did things super helpful. DW does seem like it is experiencing a bit of a renaissance of costumer social interaction. I find that it always picks up right around CoCo.

Great post! And so true!

But I didn't sew anything this time. I think I was either knitting or eating Chickpeatos then...

I miss what lj was too, facebook just isn't as personable. And I know I'm horrible at posting, but I'm always reading. And I miss dress diaries too. There are plenty of basic construction diaries out there, but as costumes get more advanced, it's nice to share the knowledge.

It feels to me like Dreamwidth is re-invigorating the community a bit. Logging in twice a week and I have to go back a page. I didn't on LJ. I've also found a lot of new sewing buddies from the conversion.

Though I still need to post more often.
