Out of the 19th century and into the 16th
Sep. 16th, 2010 06:23 pmSo the terrible ad for the PA renaissance faire keeps running every other add. I take this as a sign from the Universe that I need to get off my butt and figure out what the heck to wear! (On a side note, what a horrible ad! First of all the footage is all from 2006, they couldn't have used the queen from a more recent season?!? They're now 4 queens removed...Secondly She wore a microphone from 3 short periods ALL DAY they had to pick footage from when she's wearing a GIANT wireless mic? REALLY?..rant over)
So! Alice is going to wear my big green dress which means I don't have anything nice to wear. There are two possible outfits here.
Option 1.
I bought this great embroidered linen at work when it was super cheap. Creamy linen with a black embroidered floral scrolling pattern. It screams embroidered jacket. However, it's Joann's fabric. Which somehow isn't all that special (maybe because I work there?) and leaves me open to the horrible "you show up at prom and someone's wearing the same dress!" possibility. Also is it terrible to hand sew a jacket with machine embroidered fabric? I would much rather do it correctly but is it a complete waste of time to do it with that material?
Option 2
We revisit the Mary Queen of Scots dress that I intended to make last year. I have all the fabric for it still.

Date: 2010-09-16 11:56 pm (UTC)The neat trick with those sleeves is you make a bodice with a very wide neckline and narrow straps. You sew the sleeve head ontop of the strap along the inside edge instead of setting it like a normal sleeve. Probably they'll need a little padding in the sleeve head to give it that fullness.
