And I didn't infact stay up all night...
Oct. 18th, 2010 07:51 pmSo yesterday was faire day. It was lots of fun, and despite all odds I did not in fact stay up all night on Saturday, frankly I was far too tired too. It was the end of two very looong weeks without a real quiet day off and I was just burnt. This morning I slept in late and basically puttered all day. I did a minimal amount of cleaning, took the recycling...and that's pretty much it. Been fabulous.
So now I feel energized enough to post.
We rolled in a little after two..I think we made it onto the faire grounds around 3 (Hey it's a lot of layers dressing in the parking lot with someone who's never done that before)
curiouschilde Came out to help A and I into our many many layers. The second hoop I bought off ebay never showed so I gave A the hoop and wore two thin cotton petticoats, a big bridal crinoline and a flannel petticoat. Which didn't have quite the lift off I would have preferred but did keep my legs very comfortable when it started to get chilly. We met up with
blackcat452 and
madamekat both of whom looked STUNNING.
blackcat452 's elizabethan jacket has convinced me that I must in fact own one. It's such a fabulously flattering, attractive garment. I was totally inspired.
We went to chess, said hello to the Queen and court. It's hard to walk five steps with the Rob and
curiouschilde and not run into someone we know and haven't seen in a year. So that was pleasant. Lots of hugs and "how is everything!"
In the end my dress was wearable. It wasn't everything I had originally envisioned. I made tie on sleeves (although I forgot the loops on the bodice to tie them into and they became pin on sleeps..whoops) but in retrospect since I'll probably never where this anywhere BUT faire and given the wild temperature fluctuation perhaps that is a non-period compromise that works for my health. I did not put the sleeves on until the sun had begun setting and the temperature dropped significantly.
curiouschilde lent me a beautiful silk partlet and a girdle that just helped pull the whole thing together (and cover some badly arranged trim) I ran out of trim to put it down the sleeves as well. In the end the fit wasn't bad but because I didn't have a corset underneath the hooks and eyes gapped a lot, actually at first I thought I just couldn't close it as it was too small. So I added ribbons to tie it closed in the CF. I think with my stays on it would in fact lay quite nicely. I also discovered why people say tabbed corsets are more comfortable (i'd read that so I've always just made them with tabs) when it's just the bodice that's boned it digs in to your hips something lovely.
Now I thought I had left the camera in the car until 3/4 of the way through the day so I didn't take many pictures at all but here are the highlights

And now to start the planning for the Victorian Christmas Party!
