robinsnest'twas a productive day. I had assembled the skirt body for my Belvidere under skirt (for those who don't remember. I.E. everyone, this was my general inspiration. not 100% copying but inspired by)
I bought a ruffler foot from amazon that claimed to make tiny perfect pleats. Spoiler alert: It doesn't. But it makes perfectly acceptable ruffles. and while I don't like ruffles AS much as pleats, I don't love them significantly more to turn down the fact I made 10 yards of ruffles in an hour. So back to where we were, I had gotten the skirt cut out and assembled. I was using a horrible butterick pattern just for the gored shape as i required less thinking. First go round I decided it was tooooo wide. so I took 4" out of each side seam.
Before and after. Plus I figured I'd get more distance out of the ruffles if it was 16" further around the hem each time. I was hoping for five layers of ruffles but I only got 4. Ah well. I'll take it. I also made the little tufted pad the pattern called for and sewed it into the butt. I like the idea of it sewn in so I don't have to worry about a) losing it or b) tying another layer at my waist.
Look Mom a giant black blob! I promise that represents a fully finished underskirt. With a hook and bar, hem, butt pad and 4 layers of cotton sateen ruffles.
My fabric for the bodice and overskirts arrives tomorrow supposedly. Fingers crossed it doesn't suck. ordering fabric online is SUCH a gamble.
After we took the dog for a walk I didn't really feel up to tracing a bodice pattern and fitting etc etc. so I picked up Rob's long languishing shirt for the Pimpernel dinner that I really-also-need-to-sew-for and got the collar all put on...will I go back and start a sleeve? mmmm doubtful. we'll see. I'm not working till 5 tomorrow so with any luck I'll get a Belvidere bodice pattern fitted. Using the TV pattern as a base saves me so much time.
