Rob and I rolled in around 10 last night from a marvelous trip to vermont. We went up to visit my grandparents (his first time meeting them, he passed with flying colors). They're much older than I remember, but it has been 2 years since I've seen them. The have a cabin where they spend their summers in Arlington vermont. I think it's a little pocket of nirvanah on earth. It's on the appropriately named High Pins Drive. It's a little uninsulated wood cabin surrounded by tall pine trees and a hillside of ferns. It poured most of the time, but that didn't dampen our spirits. We snuck in a nice walk down river road during a brief bit of sun, we stopped at the CHEESE HOUSE. Yes that is a building made to look like a wheel of cheese that sells all kinds of vermonty goodness, I got some extra sharp cheddar dipped in wax. Rob got Horseradish maple mustard. We lounged on the porch and listened to the rain. and for about an hour my whole family was there, Mom Dad mark and molly. That hasn't happened since christmas. Molly also brought Jake and Rob throughly enjoyed playing fetch and generally enjoying having a dog. On Sunday afternoon there was a brief hour when Granny was napping and Rob was napping, Mom was doing a crossword puzzle, Gramps was working on his latest basket and I was quilting. It was such a peaceful visit. Refilled my tanks so to speak. Rob fit in seamlessly with my family and I basked in the feeling of contentment that I had almost all the people who mattered most to me there. Usually if I have family I have no Rob or vice versa. It felt whole.
On Monday morning clearly Gramps and Granny were tired and it was time to hit the road. We ate a bagel, packed the car and drove out of paradise. We stopped to see the Bennington Battle monument, but if you're with someone who has a massive fear of heights and therefore don't go into the monument there's not much to do there. They do have a cute giftshop though.
Then we stopped at home to pick up a few more things from my room in the ongoing quest to clean out my room for my mother, ate with mom and Mark, picked some zinnias to bring home and drove back down. We had to pick up equipment from two of Rob's friends and by the time we got home it was almost ten!
The thing about have three days off from work is that you really don't want to go back....
