costume ponderings

So I've lost steam tonight on my 1850s dress. I'm not sure about finishing the edge of my pagoda sleeves. In the original in POF they don't say anything about whether they were lined, hemed, anything. I'm 90 percent sure I want to pipe the edges and that means I really need to line them with something. So do I self line, line with some linen, i'm not sure. I lined the bodice with bright yellow cotton because it was around and I never expected to see it. So I'm stuck. what to do what to do.
