So this morning Rob and I pried ourselves out of bed and went to Lorraine's Memorial Service an hour and a half away. They held it on the grounds of the Ren Faire, at the Globe Theater. It was a really beautiful memorial, they had pieces of her artwork up, a self portrait, some photo montage and her last gown on a dress form. Her Brother-in-Law spoke for his sister, a few other friends spoke and there were musical performances from a few of the Ren Faire acts. It was down right surreal to be there, I haven't been there NOT for a faire day since I left. I kept expecting her to pop-out and say "GOTTCHA!" It would be THE most Lorraine thing I could think of. I cried. A lot.

Then we went to Golden Corral which is a horribly fattening treat I only get in the once in a blue moon we go out to Lebanon. I'm telling you surreal to be sitting there with Rob, NOT as over-tired actor/technicians who'd run for a fast moment to eat, but as a married couple 5 years later!

We then proceeded to hit up my favorite thrift store where I SCORED.

1. Vintage buttonholer. [livejournal.com profile] kass_rants has the same one and it's AMAZING. I don't have a vintage singer but my upstairs neighbor does!

$1.00

I think proceeded to find the manual online. Double score.

2. Lambswool muff. Not really sure when it's from but it's pretty! It has a metal zipper on the inside pocket, maybe 1940s? Any thoughts? Either way I LIKE IT!

$8.00

And finally prepare to hate me.

3.  Black Granny Boots, NO ZIPPER black leather. says size 7.5 but really comfortably fit my size 8's

75 cents!!!

Not sure why the picture keeps posting sideways...but life goes on.

Anyway so it was a very....weird day.

It goes well with the fact we both have yards and yards of the same black lambswool trim from Jomar...

Thanks. Lorraine was great lady. Losing her so suddenly has been hard for all of us.

Honestly, I never used it when I was still living at home. I didn't really start sewing until I left the house.

And I'm still afraid of buttonholes.

Wow, those are some great deals! I was just looking at a buttonholer similar to that at an antique shop over the weekend. My husband noticed it because of the shape of the case. I figured it was a sewing machine attachment, so didn't purchase it, but I gather now it is its own thing?

no it is a sewing machine attachment, it goes on the older black style singers. Which My mother has back in upstate NY and my upstairs-neighbor-bridesmaid-great friend Victoria upstairs has one. But it makes some of the best button holes I've ever seen and it does eyelets.
