I'm trying to make a pinterest board of wool regency gowns as I want to make one for [livejournal.com profile] mandie_rw's birthday in Feb...but I'm finding almost nothing! Especially not in the round-gown vein. What'd they all just freeze? Amanda keeps trying to make me dress like Mrs. Bennett as I'm the old married lady, so in order to do that I solidly need that round gown look...but I'm not finding much in terms of wool gowns.

Anyone got some to share?

I appreciate it in advance...here's what I've found so far. Regency Winter Wear, I'll add lots of spencers and pelisses later, but right now I'm just trying to figure out what to use a lighter weight drapey pink wool for.

I was starting to get a little overboard. But yes, wool was definitely used. They wrote about the popularity of wool morning dresses in 1818 - I saved the link to the magazine in the board.

In regards to those embroidery samples on your board: I actually have pictures of every single one of them from The Met's collection (the benefits of working there!). There are about fifty bazillion and while many were meant for menswear, I wouldn't discount their use for dresses.

There is some suggestion that Mrs. Bennet was only about 40 years old in the book, and still a very attractive woman (by some of the wording in the dialogue between the characters), if that makes you feel better. I've been reading up about the other characters in Austen books that are married and their descriptions, and it seems to vary as much as people today. I think as a married lady you could probably get away with some wild stuff (like your wonderful madras gown!), but still have to wear a cap. :P

I'm currently kitting myself out for my Jane Austen Book Club, as we also do teas and dances. Most of us are "old married ladies."

As for wool round gowns, they DEFINITELY had to have them. If anything, some of the Nordic collections, and I'm sure I've seen some in the Dutch and English collections.
