The Lovely Exchange

Katie started this great holiday tradition a few years ago and for anyone who wants to participate lets give it a January run when we're all a little calmer?
Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your DW. The post should contain your list of 10(or more) holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your DW, or link to this post so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list.
And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out; it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish and it might come true. Give and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
Don't forget to include a shipping address.
So here are my holiday wishes!
1. Pictures of your adorable pets being adorable.
2. An electric tea kettle
3. Any video editing jobs for my husband.
4. Get your flu shot and tell other people you did. It's so important to be able to protect everyone with herd immunity. I feel so passionate about it because of the children I work with.
5. Headphones as I seem to have lost mine.
6. Advice on how the heck you buy a new car and not get ripped off. We need to and I've been putting it off for months because I'm paralyzed by the enormity of it.
7. Post to you DW, I miss when this was a vibrant community. I know it'll never come back, but if I'm putting in wishes...that's on my list.
8. Donate to Australian wildlife. It's breaking my heart seeing the effects of the wildfires there. Climate Change is overwhelming in it's awfulness.
9. VOTE
10. Costume in Detail...yes it's weird but I've never read it. Actually any costume book I haven't gotten any new reading material in a long time.
Now everyone else do yours as that's the fun part for me.

Date: 2020-01-07 05:48 pm (UTC)Costume in Detail is good to have on the bookshelf though I only seem to flip through it for very specific questions on a current project. (If that makes any sense). For something to really "read" you might add the new POF to your list - fabulous. And I don't even make stays.

Date: 2020-01-07 07:25 pm (UTC)Car dealerships are usually still commission (only get paid if someone buys) so it's kind of understood that if you take a test drive, then you'll buy from that salesperson since they spent time on you.
The best time I bought a car was at the end of a rainy day, an hour before closing. Dealerships like to do the haggling where the salesperson goes back and forth in another room to talk to the wizard/big boss about financing deals which can take hours. If they haven't made any sales that day, they want to make a sale, but no one wants to have to stay after working hours, so, at least, the bargaining time may be lessened. Make sure you are in a good mood and not hungry or rushed. I already knew the make and model of car I wanted for that one, though.
They often want to add on upgrades like some sort of weatherproofing, detailing, car mats. Pad your plan with a couple hundred dollars for car mats or something small so that they feel like they made an upsale.
If they try to get you to buy something you really don't want, it's okay to walk away even if they have started negotiations. I wasn't using it as a tactic, but when buying my first new car, I eventually gave up and said that maybe I couldn't afford a new car and as I was walking away in the parking lot, they came running back up with a new offer.

Never pay sticker price, talk them down to a few hundred over manufacturers list price.
Car shopping in bad weather gets better deals.
Car shopping at the end of the month also gets better deals as the commissions are calculated on the total number sold. Everyone is looking to add one more car to their quota.
If you have a Costco membership they have a no haggle purchase option.
Dealer financing is often a better deal than financing through your bank. Almost everyone but Subaru has they own finance department and they can offer rates significantly below market rate if you have good credit.
