But more on that later.

First I must introduce the project! As you may or may not have noticed Reconstructing History is hosting a Carnivale themed salon of February 6th, and I have nothing to wear! I posted several of my favorite inspiration images yesterday but my primary inspiration is this gown from the MET

The photo isn't in color but the detail is

So the Grand Plan is to use RH821 and my make first personal Sacque gown. I made them in school but never for ME to wear. So I'm rather excited. I know I should call it a Robe ala frenchie but I never spell it right, I can't pronounce it right and yada yada yada. [livejournal.com profile] kass_rants said I could just call it a Sacque without the gown, but that makes me feel like I'm making a Sack..and that's so much less glamorous. Given that I own nothing in this world I've got to start from the inside out. First Stop POCKET HOOPS!

So back to that whole OCD thing. I started my pocket hoops this morning using the above linked RH832. [livejournal.com profile] kass_rants gave me some lovely coarse Linen to use. and if I had thought of it I'd have snagged some cotton twill tape but I didn't think of it. So I dug into the box of scraps and used some bias tape that someone gave me years ago. Have you ever noticed when people find out you sew they start unloading notions that belonged to some distant relative and they don't know what to do with them? Well that box proved veeeery helpful here.

Here are my cut out pocket hoops with the tape pinned on. The OCD part is it took me almost an hour to get them lined up like I wanted. And even now I only see that they're not perfectly straight.

Before Sewing:

and After sewing:

Don't you just looove the things irons do to linen? So pretty. Now I did think very hard about hand sewing my boning channels on. But I have a limited amount of elbow grease to divvy out amongst my projects and this is all straight lines that no one will see. So I'll hand sew the parts that functionally it matters. This doesn't.

This is what I'm up to, hand sewing the rolled edge of the pocket slit. I shall hide all kinds of illegal things in my hoops!!! Chinchilla anyone?

Tune in later for: Robin Explores the mystic Fell stitch!

If you would have made full panniers, you could have fit Mellie, Preston, Sebastian and Fredling in them!
