I've got an appointment to get scraped at 9. I know it's not a big deal, a routine PAP is duh routine...but EVERY FLAPJACK TIME I end up in a mini-panic attack that they're going to tell me there's something horribly abnormal about my lady bits.  Not to mention there's really only one person who's on a first name basis with my whoo-ha and that ain't the gyno. Excuse me now as I go do something horribly uncomfortable and try not to have a panic attack while doing it.

EDIT: I MADE IT THROUGH the whole thing...and then the doctor accidentally knocked it into the sink and they didn't have another of something and so long story short I have an appointment for ANOTHER PAP next tuesday *facepalm* Karma is getting back at me for not having had one since 2008.

Ugh. I hope everything is okay. I used to get all freaky, because the first pap I had, it felt like I had been poked with a hat pin. Then every year I got it done, it hurt less and less. But still, THAT annual appointment is never fun.

I have never understood the assumption that pap smears are routine. (Then again, I've never understood the connection between birth control and a pap smear; the test is screening for cervical cancer, not pregnancy.)

It doesn't help that every time I undergo one of these routine procedures it takes about three weeks for the flashbacks and nightmares to stop. But hey, it's routine, right? [insert wry grin here]

Here's a happy thought: After two normal PAPs in a row (two years in a row), you can skip a year! That's what my doctor told me, and this year I only had to have the fingerbang!

Yeah, except every time the doctor tells me that, I either end up with a new doctor, or he's forgotten, by the time the next year runs around. :)

Argh! Well, hopefully the second one is easier than the first

You didn't say what sex your doctor is, but I've always searched out places like the local Feminist Health Center or chosen to go to female OB-GYNs. My one experience with a male GYN was horrible. I think you just really have to have girl parts to understand what annual exams feel like and do them properly so they're not more uncomfortable than they need to be.
