I just got a nice email from the head organizer lady and she sent me links to a few of the vendors who are going to be there. It's not a huge list but there's a few nice things in case anyone wants to bring some spare cash.

The Scarlet Scarab has the same silk stockings that Reconstructing History carries, and I hope I'm not dooming myself to bad karma by pointing this out, but they're $5.00 cheaper. I have a pair and I wear them CONSTANTLY I also discovered they can survive a machine washing (Husband was trying to be helpful) so now I just machine wash them.  They also have those nice flat straw hats in black. I may grab one of those myself.

Liberty Linens looks like they're going to be there with some nice linens, wools and patterns. I'd really like to get a good look at these J.P. Ryan Patterns everyone raves about. and it's a good chance to save on the shipping!

And Deborah's Pantry looks like they'll be there with period food? Not 100% sure but that could be neat!

Now I've zero history or experience with any of these vendors so I don't know if they're known for quality or not, but I'm rather looking forward to a bit of window shopping!

I was also thinking I'd bring my 16th century playing cards (I don't have 18th century but they look closer right?) and perhaps anyone who wants to could play a game of cards with me :-)

Thanks for the links! I've always wondered where people found those flat straw hats. Let me know how the JP Ryan Patterns work! I plan to expand the eras I dress, but I know not every company produces/explains like Truly Victorian, and that makes me a sad panda.

Umm... that is the price Williamsburg sells the silk stocks for too. Oh and the Silly Sisters sell the black flat straw blanks as well (14" & 16").

Whee, stuuuuuuff! Hit me if I try to buy more fabric, will you? I'm allowed a hat and a pair of stockings, though. And period food - at least that's better than hot dogs? Hahaha

What time are we planning on going over there? And I may have to leave early if I can't switch shifts with somebody at work (or pretend I'm deathly ill that morning)...feh.

I love love love Deborah's Pantry. My absolute favorites are the candied tamarinds and anything chocolate. Everything is packed modernly on the inside, but outside is wrapped in paper and twine if you want to use the food as part of a display.

Liberty Linens I have only encountered at Ft. Fred, and they are pretty good. I bought a pigskin from them a couple years back to bind stays with--it's not as tough to push needles through as modern kidskin, but is stronger than linen binding tape. JP Ryan's---I don't like them for a number of reasons, some of which are just my personal prefrence. I do recommend the six-piece pattern to newcomers to our regiment because it's so easy to put together, but I wrote a list of caveats to make it a bit better (ie--don't use 45" fabric to make your petticoats unless you are a child; use a narrow tape instead of self-fabric for apron ties and make them long enough to wrap twice around, etc). I had bought the stays and english gown pattern, but I really hated the modern sewing techniques that she implements (I LOATHE clipping curved seams because it weakens the seam, but it's what she has in her instructions) and that each pattern only contains one size. However, many reenactors love them and swear by them.

I do genuinely like the folks at Scarlet Scarab and they have quite a few things that other's don't carry. I like their straw hats and silk handkercheifs and she also has a case of hard-to-find sewing implents in wood, bone or horn. Oh--and oil cloth! I hope it doesn't rain, because that jacks up the price $5 more a yard.

I have the JP Ryan patterns for stays, robe anglaise, and jackets. Having only used the gown pattern, It fit me pretty well without a lot of tweaking. I haven't used the other patterns because other things keep coming up. (hello distracting buttons and leather breeches).
