While I did buy the hooks for the Titanic dress I wasn't feeling into sewing them on so I decided to skip ahead and work on the ballgown bodice for the Jampagene party. Yeah Yeah I know this means I'll end up sewing them in the hotel on Friday night but we'll pretend I'll get to them before then. Just smile and nod it's the easiest way.

I promise it fits me loads better. I made a mock-up to check the fit and only had to take in the shoulders a bit. YAY for buying a pattern to save me time!! It's the TV416 ballgown bodice. I've decided against bag lining it like the instructions call for. I just really don't like how it looks. So instead I flat-lined and intend to finish the edges with bias tape. Except for the tails where I'll probably take a wide strip of silk to make a facing.

Currently I'm trying to decide if I want the little puffed sleeves on the pattern. [livejournal.com profile] madamekat assures me not having them is perfectly period (and she IS the Victorian guru) but I kind of like how cute and silly they are. BUT it's more work and will they make me look like a linebacker? This is what I'm pondering.

After binding all the edges I need to put in boning in the seam allowance and buttons down the front. Oh and trimmings! Any thoughts on trimmings?

Looks good, its such an elegant style, you don't need too much trimming. Do you have any lace leftover from the day bodice? or any trimming on the skirts that you can replicate on the bodice?

That is going to be such a gorgeous line on you!! It's a nice scoop to the neck.
