Dress U Saturday
Jun. 6th, 2012 04:57 pmWe woke up on the early side as
madamekat was taking a 9am class on making a Titanic era petticoat. I saw her off, took a shower and got myself somewhat together. I wore the random blue and white regency I made on a whim sometime this spring. I'd never actually gotten to wear it so even thought it was an old thing it still felt like a new thing.
I didn't feel up for a shower and curlers on Friday night, so I did my best with my own curls and a bonnet for Regency hair. Not perfect but not horrendous either.

Funny side note about that coral necklace I'm wearing, it's actually the girl size version of Felicity's coral necklace from when I was like nine. I still have the little velvet pouch that says Pleasant Company and everything. It works remarkably well for this era. I got quite a kick out of wearing it.
The one class that I was DETERMINED not to miss (so much so I had a nightmare on Friday night that I in fact HAD missed it) was
jennylafleur's class on fitting yourself. It was a REALLY great class. It was a fair amount of things I had heard before, mixed with some great new tips, and a pretty large reminder about how I should stop cutting corners and do it right if I want the end result to not stink. VERY glad I didn't miss it.
Directly after the fitting class was Beth's class on re-making a dress, which was neat as she had some period examples of dresses remade to follow the newest fashion. After class a bunch of us piled into Beth's truck for a Chick-filet run. I swear the must think we're nuts with all the strangely dressed business they got. We ate in Beth and
ladyxjade's room where I got to paw through Beth's Jewelry hoard. IT. WAS. AWESOME.
ladyxjade and Beth wanted to take a class on Dressing for the Titanic and I had nothing else to do so I went. The instructor was really great, she passed around originals, reproductions, original catalogs and patterns and shared some great google books that I must look up. Sadly, there was one lady who wanted to argue with her, talk over her, add her two cents and generally be obnoxious the WHOLE DAMN TIME. At one point I slowly pulled my hat pin out and debated how good my aim was.
ladyxjade disarmed me for some reason. meanie. It was really too bad that she was such a blemish on an otherwise stellar class.
I wore my new dress to the titanic dinner. Rob also bought me a lovely new friend named Albert who I proudly carried with me. I love him so much as he has a head on one side and a tail on the other! So cute it kills me. Really Albert was the most interesting part of my outfit and therefore got the most comments. Save one from the Cl*ssH@le mentioned earlier. She came up and said, "that's a nice dress....you know it's not an evening gown" I swear people like her give this whole hobby a bad name. If I was a newbie how off putting would that be! Sorry lady but I had to use what was in my stash and not buy stuff. The entire dress cost me under $20.00 pattern included, hell CORSET and pattern included so go annoy someone else.

It was kind of hot in velvet, kid gloves and a fur muff...so I'm a bit flushed.
And finally one more random one so you can see my purple sash, I thought it was a nice pop. But I'm holding Albert directly over it in the other photos.

I suppose I should go back to cleaning up my disaster of a sewing room now. I got one half cleaned...
