I knew it wouldn't be amazing because I don't tailor, and frankly ran out of time to do the experimenting I wanted to do...but it's really frustrating to have put all this time into something for him instead of something for me and have it look THIS horrible. It looks like a cheap, lumpy, baggy, horrible mess. I hate it. I just want to have a good cry. Perhaps I will. Or a cookie. Damn diet.






for what little it's worth I DID go buy interfacing too. The good sew-in kind. *sigh*

I think it looks fine. I might be tempted to yank those shoulder up a bit to fix the wrinkle there but that would be it. And shiny buttons. It does need shiny buttons. :-)

yeah, this kind of fabric doesn't tailor...the only thing I would fix is the armscye, as that sleeve is sitting out where the modern armscye is. Bring the top of the sleeve, where the shoulder point is, back to where his shoulder point is, rounding out that shoulder line for a proper, period look.

If you want to tailor something for him in the future, wool is the only way to fly...

I think you are being waaaaaay too hard on yourself and too critical of the outfit. Really and truly, it looks great. I love the silver trim, too. The buttons you're going to add will really make it shine!

I totally understand being critical of your own work but it's really not what you've described! The style and color look great on him, and he'll look properly suited up. That goes a long way at a costume event. It's always good to see the guys involved.

It looks fine. Agreed on taking up the shoulder a smidge, but since he will have a few layers beneath it, and there will be candlelight, ain't no big thang.
