I'm really amused that I'm going to a wedding tonight and cannot figure out what to wear. I have a lovely evening outfit for every era but...the 21st century! Tell me I'm not the only costumer this happens to. I've suspiciously eyed my magenta regency dress...my titanic not-an-evening-dress and i guess I'll just wear a cotton sundress and be on the casual side. Ah well, at least I'm amused by myself.

Not just you! I suppose some of the dresses I have for work are a little dressy, but no real dressy clothes. Why do yo think I made a 20s dress to go out to dinner? :)

You are not. Though, for a long time, when I would consider making a modern outfit it was always an evening or formal gown or a crazy goth costume. That has since changed.

Because of this problem of being under dressed, I made sure I got a couple of cocktail dresses, and my husband bought me another one. They're all purple, oddly enough.

I regularly wear my 1912 gown as modern evening wear. I don't see a problem with it, and I always receive compliments.

Lol! If I weren't periodically interested in making retro-style dresses, I would be right there with you! Thankfully a 1950s-type cocktail dress is appropriate for many occasions...
