I started working on a new overskirt for my purple victorian for the tiara and jampagne party this year. (I'm going to have an entire wardrobe of separates at this rate). I bought the fabric in NYC when we took [livejournal.com profile] blackcat452 for part one of her bachelorette party.

This is the fashion plate [livejournal.com profile] bethhsh found (she gave me five, I liked this one best). I have no idea where it's from :-) I just like it.

overskirt2

I started by referencing the TV208 that I used for my last overskirt and measuring where I'd like changes to be.  This is what it looks like tonight (the back isn't poofed well just has a few pins wadding it up to get an idea)

I need to round the bottom corners of the back piece and fold the top edge of the over lap down to get that point. But I think it'll work. And I do love the orange and purple together. I know it's loud...but I like loud fabric choices.

Tomorrow I'm going to start roll-hemming a million yards of ruffles. won't that be fun.

Orange!!! I feel like I shouldn't approve of such a combination, but I so totally do. Loud? Sure. But it's great! Plus I feel like maybe costumers in general (myself included!) don't push the envelope enough when it comes to the eras that really did like their obnoxious color pairings. So, go you! :D

this is a real question: why a roll hem?

well I need to edge finish the strips I'm going to use for the strips I'm going to pleat so they don't fray everywhere. Pinking wasn't especially common for something like this in this ear. I COULD sew a machine hem, sew a hand hem etc but the easiest and fastest thing for me is to do a rolled hem on my serger.
