I was on such a knitting roll. I made another Sontag for Alice, I made a knitted petticoat, muff and pile of christmas presents all in quick succession. I was looking at tons of knitting patterns and thought "I CAN DO THIS!" This is great! I'm awesome at this!....WRONG. I got far to big for my britches and wanted to make something SUPER COOL so I bought stuff to make a beaded pineapple reticule. I got Amanda to buy me fancy pants tiny needles...oh how pride cometh before the fall. You see I am in fact a muggle and despite two hours of attempting to cast on 320 tiny stitches with beads I never made it past 80 and couldn't fit them on my needle, kept running out of tail less than 1/4 of the way through casting on...okay I'm obviously using the wrong side as the tail. *rotates* now I can't make the bead go on. fail. fail. fail.

I'm going to go stab myself in the eye with a size 00 needle now. I can probably get it right through the iris they're so damn small.

Can you try a different cast on that doesn't use the tail? I've never cast on with beads so I can't offer any more constructive advice, but I applaud you for trying the pineapple. I want one too but haven't gotten around to it.

Whenever I did beaded knitting I never strung all of my beads at once. Too much to deal with. If you're only using one bead every few stitches, I would suggest only stringing a few inches of beads at a time, and just cutting the thread when you run out.

Also, are you knitting from the top down? Maybe a crochet chain cast on would be easier? It's been my favorite lately, and with thread it's a fairly stretchy cast on which makes the first row of knitting much easier.
