I'm almost finished with the World's Most Difficult Bathrobe (tm). Seriously I had to take the waist up 4" and the armsyces up 2! But we're in the home stretch. So lets talk buttons

First the wrapper sans buttons..it's very 16th century italian meets ugly to me.

Option 1- Gold Buttons

Option 2 big honkin wood buttons

Both of these I cannot get more of as they were bought when they were uber clearance at work once upon a time so they're what I'm working with. However I can document both arrangements and I'll put functional hooks an eyes on so the buttons are just for show. It actually doesn't really NEED closures as it stays very nicely closed without any.

Okay, I don't *hate* them both, but neither feel quite right. The scale of the gold ones seem right, but they look a bit shiny for the garment. The wood ones have a better feel but read as too large to me.

The gold ones are not perfect, but they work. The wood ones are just way too big.

Agree with the others that the scale of the gold is much better. But gold/brass is problematic for a cotton wrapper, and wooden buttons are pretty rare for *any* use. Plain or calico china would be a lot more appropriate. I've got a ton (well, literally a pound or two) of white that I bought many, many moons ago and will never, ever use up; want me to send you some?

Oooh okay! although does it change your mind if I say that it's actually a wool plaid and a cotton brocade?

That is interesting! Actually, I'm not sure I've ever heard of mixing cotton with wool or silk, except for trimming a fine/sheer cotton with silk. So in that case, you're already outside the typical, and potentially anything goes. :D

Well I had the wool and I was looking for something that stylistically went for the contrast and it was close enough for me. It's actually a cotton poly blend but the poly content is pretty small so it doesn't bug me.

It is a really awesome combination! Good period color choices, and nice and busy mix of patterns for a wrapper.
