I picked up this retired American Girl dress (tag say's Pleasant Co) at the thrift store today. They're so hard to find that I figured either one of my costumer friends would want it or I could throw it up on ebay. It's a girls size 7. So anyone know a little girl in need of a great little empire dress? $20 with free shipping. Lemme know!

I used to looooove the American Girl dresses. I think they only had the 3 originals when my grandma used to give us the catalog to pour over (Samantha, Molly, Kirsten...I think Felicity was added when I was starting to get "too old"). I wanted Kirsten's painted furniture and amber pendant (and her greenish work dress in real-girl size) and I pined for Samantha's button boots. That dress will make some little girl very happy, methinks.

when I was 9 I got Felicity for my birthday and goodness did I get hours and hours of play out of her. My mom always says that yeah she wasn't cheap up front but I got SO much imaginative play out of her that she completely worth every penny. I took her everywhere, made things for her, made up stories with her. I all around adored her. I kind of credit Felicity for why I like historical costuming so much to begin with. Plus I worked for American Girl for a year in NYC back when they had a theater. So I recognized the dress otherwise I'm not sure I would have as Josephina wasn't around when I was a kid.

I'm so jealous! I knew the value of money at a very young age, so I knew that I would never get Kirsten or any of her playthings.

It's funny that you credit Felicity for giving you interest in historical costuming...now that I look back I think the American Girls were a factor (I remember not being interested in poor Molly at all, because her clothes didn't look too much different from our own). I used to love to see old dresses in the museums my folks to us to, as well.
