I want to make an open robe to go over my white drawstring dress for our Georgian picnic that's coming up...I don't remember how to do this. I'm sitting here with fabric and a "i want to make ___" and I'm completely like "um what do I start with? I don't have a pattern. I have zero ideas of what to start with. O.o I wish I knew where the pattern I used for the dress was but I think it's a heavily bastardized version of the simplicity drawstring dress that I made years ago...oh dear apparently sewing isn't like riding a bike.

I always start with going on Pinterest for a ridiculous number of hours... Maybe that's why I have so few costumes. Good luck on figuring it out!

Don't worry, it'll come back ! I have started being more systematic about labelling and storing my patterns, though, for the same reasons.

I think the trick with an open robe is using the same back and side back pieces as a regular Regency bodice. For the front, it would depend on what look you're going for, but when I made my spencer with the low scoop front last year that is seen on so many open robes, I started with the inside wrap-ish pieces from a bib-front dress. I hope that helps!
